What a difference a day can make, our fickle hill weather never ceases to surprise. Exactly 24 hours previously I stood at this same spot in a cold, miserable howling white-out, despite an earlier good forecast. This time, it was a glorious and calm winter morning. The view across to high street showed the distant snow-covered ridge in fine relief. Fuji Velvia can produce some vivid pastel hues in early morning or evening light and records blues as you can never remember being so saturated when the sun is reflecting off snow. This was a morning for immersing myself in the surroundings and allowing time to briefly stand still as I tried to take everything in. The continuation of my route along Striding Edge was equally amazing. One of those winter mountain days in the Lakes that makes the boring journey north along the M6 worthwhile. No one can afford to miss such days, they’re priceless.
