UK Landscape Photographer: Kirk Fell, Ennerdale and Buttermere

The views in all directions from Great Gable are quintessential Lakeland.  The mountain itself is one of my favourites, varied routes up and down and interesting crags around The South Traverse offer much to see.  On this occasion I walked from Wasdale up to Styhead, over the top of Great Gable and then down and over Kirk Fell to return to Wasdale Head.   I love the views from the summit towards Ennerdale and Buttermere in the distance with plenty of other tops to take in such as Pillar, Steeple, Red Pike and High Stile and not forgetting diminutive Haystacks down on the right of this scene.  Being late in the afternoon I had it entirely to myself, which is unusual on Great Gable for it is a deservedly popular mountain.  I could afford to linger, my intended overnight wild camping spot on Kirk Fell wasn’t far away and it was good to have the time to explore the crags around Great Napes.
