Above Monsal Dale

Monsal DaleThe White Peak area of the Peak District National Park is a fascinating area, one moment you are immersed in a pastoral landscape with cattle and sheep grazing alongside arable fields and then within a short walk the landscape becomes a geologist’s, climber’s and landscape photographer’s ambrosia.  Endless ancient tracks and drystone walls with game coverts and woodlands sit above deep, water-carved, wooded hidden valleys and the walking is magnificent.  Big skies and the breeze above and cloistered calm down in the dales, this truly is a living landscape.  Managed, farmed and preserved, there is nothing wild about the area but there is a wealth of beauty and diversity.  A good long walk in the White Peak will leave you amazed.

For the technically-minded, this image was taken with a Hasselblad XPan2 and 45mm lens with a Heliopan O22 and Ilford HP5+.
