Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry Photography Workshops with Steve Walton

Our 2016 Wild Light photography tour of the Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry has now ended and what a wonderful week of fun, adventures, travel and photography it has been! The six-day tour was split with three days based at the lovely Ceann Tra Heights B&B in the small village of Ventry near Dingle and three days at the exclusive Sneem Hotel in Sneem, Co. Kerry.  Both bases are of the highest standard and perfectly situated for a comprehensive tour of this extraordinarily beautiful area.  The weather was kind throughout, the company first class fun and the locations were all planned carefully in advance.

The majority of my own photography was made with my Hasselblad 503CW and the Zeiss 50mm, 80mm, and 150mm lenses on either Fuji Acros 100 for black and white images or Fuji Velvia 50 for colour images.  I also packed my Fuji X100T with the 50mm equivalent converter lens and this image below was taken with the X100T at Derrynane.  I have a batch of films that now need to be processed and scanned and the anticipation of how the exposures will turn out is part of the thrill of film photography for me.  As convenient as digital definitely is for instant appraisal, film requires patience and careful consideration both before and after making the exposure.  I’m looking forward to getting those square Fuji Velvia 50 transparencies back from Palm Laboratory and scanning them but in the meantime, here is a long exposure image I made at Derrynane.  One feature I really do find useful on the Fuji X100T is the automatic timer that appears on the LCD screen when a long bulb exposure is started.  This was a 2 minutes and 20 seconds exposure and with the electronic remote release locked ‘on’, it’s very easy to watch as the exposure times itself down.  A far better and more convenient method than timing with a wristwatch, mobile phone or kitchen timer!

I also have reviews of two Vanguard carbon fibre tripods and the Arca Swiss Z1 DP ball head coming up on the website.  The reviews are being prepared and will be published on the site in the next few days.
