Roughting Linn waterfall
Roughting Linn waterfall is a beautiful location in Northumberland, set in a secluded natural grotto below the bridge on the lane to Roughting Linn Farm. It’s a magical location and a favourite with visiting photographers, but if you’re lucky you’ll have it entirely to yourself, immersed in the contemplative, quiet solitude that this place deserves. Here, you will learn about movement and blur and the relationship moving water has with your camera shutter speed settings. You’ll experiment with composition, light and shadow and pre-visualising the scene in colour and black and white. It is an inspiring place in which to learn, improve and build your portfolio.
This location is one of the highlights of my Wild Light landscape photography workshop breaks in Northumberland and we have always been fortunate to be the only photographers present. You’ll find the waterfall at OS grid ref TN 9839 3672. The waterfall is situated on Bar Moor, 2 miles east of the village of Ford. Take extreme care on the scramble down the steep slope into the small ravine, it can be very slippery in wet conditions and a fall here could be potentially serious. It’s worth the effort to find the waterfall, though. You’ll create some wonderful images here and leave feeling energised and refreshed and wanting to return again.
